Geocache Description:

Here is a cache placed at 3-Rivers Point, so called because the "junction" of the Republican River and the Smoky Hill River meet to form the headwaters of the Kansas (Kaw) River. Also, this is how the town of Junction City eventually got its name.

If you go to the coordinates for the 3-River View Point and stand with the bridges to your left, that would be the Republican River flowing in from Colorado and Nebraska. The river to your right would be the Smoky Hill River flowing in from Colorado. The river directly to your front is the Kansas (Kaw) River, which flows eastward and eventually intersects with the Missouri River in the Kansas City, KS/MO, area. The Kansas River is part of the National Waterway Trail, and the nearby information Kiosk will explain a lot. You can enter/exit boatcraft at the nearby boat ramp just on the Republican River and a very quick float will take you to the Kansas River and/or Smoky Hill River.

Park hours: 6:00AM - 11:00PM

In ordert o get to this cache location, just follow Grant Ave in Junction City to the access road coordinates, then follow the coordinates to the parking area. DO NOT follow the road past those coordinates for you will then be entering Fort Riley. DO NOT enter Fort Riley without a valid/current military/dependent I.D. or Visitors Pass (which can be obtained at the Marshall Army Airfield entrance off of I-70/Henry Ave gate). If you vist this location during the weekends then there will be ORANGE BARRIERS blocking the entrance and a metallic gate will be closed.

There are 3 BRIDGES nearby: 2 vehicular brdiges and 1 railroad bridge. Vehicular bridges are used for entry/exit onto installation and the railroad bridge is active, so you may see a train pass by.

When parking at the parking lot, walk down the boat ramp and to the river. To your right you should see a "trail" of sorts that will take you to cache location, though there will be various types of obstacles in the way such as downed trees OR, depending on river level, you can walk along the shore to coordinates. It is ADVISED that you walk UNDER the entry vehicular & railroad bridge for safety purposes, but you can walk across the road and into the woods to pick up that "trail".

Be aware that this is also a popular fishing area, especially along the Smoky Hill River where the water is a bit deeper close to cache coordinates. Short hike to cache location, nothing much to brag about. Bring your kayak or canoe and float on down the Kansas or Smoky Hill Rivers. NO BOATING the Republican River for that leads to Milford Lake and Milford Dam and behind quite a few housing areas.
