This cache is located at the Dennings Point section of the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve.  The point, which at the time was an island, was visited by Henry Hudson on his first voyage in 1609. The island was part of the Rombout Patent, given to colonists Gulian Verplanck and Francis Rombout after it was bought by the British colonial government in 1682. In 1709, the Southern part of the patent, which included Denning’s Point, was sold to Roger and Madam Brett who later sold the point to Jacobus de Peyster.
