Geocache Description:

A disguised micro container placed at the south-west corner of this redundant but perfectly serviceable footbridge.  The cache will enable you imagine sprinkling some fairy dust on yourself and anyone with you who may need some.

Caerful where you put your hands on the bridge as birds tend to use it as a resting place wink.

Parc Tredelerch (Tredelerch Park) is an area of parkland next to the Rhymney River on the east side of Cardiff.

The park was once a licensed space for tipping waste, but from 2001 to 2003 the area was cleared and landscaped to form a new park. At its heart is a 4 hectare lake, a former loop of the river Rhymney cut off when the river changed course. The surrounding land has been planted to provide a variety of habitats for wildlife, including areas of native woodland and scrub, reens, ditches, ponds, and meadows. There are around 2km of footpaths , including a boardwalk across the lake, and many picnic tables.

As you explore the park look out for mute swan, great crested grebe, heron, coot, mallard and tufted duck on the lake. During the summer months keep an eye open for wildflowers such as yellow flag iris, growing along the lake margin, and three species of orchid in the rough grassland. In recent times, bitterns have been spotted lurking in the reed beds and water voles swimming in the reens.

The name ‘Tredelerch’ is derived from the Welsh for ‘farm of Telerch’, the original medieval owner of this land.

The park is crossed by the Rhymney Trail, which follows the course of the river from the coast north to the village of Llanedeyrn. Crossing along the south side of the park is the Wales Coast Path.

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then, the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast. There is a stats listing, so you can see how many Little Bridges you have found, you can find it here: - Little Bridges Geocaching Series (littlebridgesseries.co.uk). If you would like to add to the series, please go to this site, on the tab Get Involved click number request and fill in the form. To qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xxxx then the name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to stats list.
