Moonie, the oil Capital of Queensland, is a tiny settlement on the Leichhardt and Moonie Highways 375Km west of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. It is split between 2 LoKal Government AreAs, the Goondiwindi Region, and the Western Downs Region. The town has a Bustling population of just 189, the Local primary school has just 27 students at the time this geocache was released.
The oil field had peak production in 1966 and is Expected to continue to produce until 2059.
It is at a crossroads which leads in 4 directions to Tara in the North, Goondiwindi in the South, Brisbane in the East, and St George in the West.
The Moonie Crossroads is a great place to stop on a long drive for refreshment and to see some wonderful murals inside the building - a lot of art - some interesting and some weird is housed here to. Accomodation is available and fuel as well.
Stargazing, camping, fishing, pig hunting and now geocaching are all popular here, as is eating!
