Geocache Description:

15 June 2023, 18:00 - 20:00

Geocaching recently put out a blog post about Maker Magic event caches and that got me thinking. We have some incredible gadget caches locally, but what if we could create more? How can we inspire other people to get some of their ideas out of their heads and into the wild? I know for me that is the hardest part, from inception to creation.

One of the things that helps me more than anything when creating caches is having access to a really well equipped shop. So in honor of the Maker Magic event I am opening up my shop to anyone who wants to come build and explore other cache creation tools and collaborate with other cache creators.

I have access to a full woodshop as well as 3D printers and a laser cutter (ok, two laser cutters)

I will be available to introduce you to the tools, help supervise, generally give you a space to work and build and most important have fun exploring!

I am also thinking about offering a one hour tutorial on digital CAD software (probably OnShape) so that if you have really big ideas and want to create your own custom containers or parts you will have a start on the tools or knowledge you need to draw and print your own creations. Plese make a note in your will attend log if you are interested and if there is enough interest I'll adjust the schedule accordingly.

I would ask that you bring your own materials, though we do have plenty of scrap wood. Raw materials are perfect; if you have questions about how to cut or fashion something we can help!

I will have lots of random swag though that you can use to fill your new caches.

This will be bring your own snacks / beverages but please remember that we are a school, so the beverages have to be school appropriate. If you are bringing something to share that is awesome too. I do have plenty of water on hand.

I can comfortably fit between 12 and 14 people working before I run out of room, and about 24 people before it starts getting crowded so please RSVP so that I can figure out the spaces.
