This series replaces the 2021 GEMS Series that was heavily damaged during Hurricane Fiona, Most of the main trail has been cleared at the time of these new placements, but some sections remain to be cleared, as do the previous side-trails which now require a scrambling bushwhack.
Welcome to the 14-cache “GEMS” (Google Earth Map Series). The series name comes from the fact that we came upon the trail through reviewing Google Earth maps of the area.
This series will involve ~ 4+ km (one-way) of hiking or snowshoeing (motorized vehicles, other than snowmobiles, are prohibited). The trail has 2 hills with moderate elevation changes, and there are 3 caches that will require off-trail bushwhacks of ~ 140m. Having 2 vehicles will minimize time & effort, leaving one at the start (trailhead #1) & one at the end (trailhead #2). There are a number of other caches en route to and from “Diamond” (GCA8EKH) — the “GRT” (Graham’s Road Trail) series.
