John Tayler was Lieutenant Governor of NY under Daniel Tompkins, and became Acting Governor when Tompkins resigned upon his election as Vice President of the United States. He served as Acting Governor of NY from February through June 1817, returning to Lieutenant Governor to DeWitt Clinton from 1817-1822. He was born in New York City.
