上海财神庙是全国规模最大的财神庙，它的历史最早可以追溯到明万历十四年（1586年），至今已有四百多年的历史。

Shanghai the God of Wealth Temple, the largest temple dedicated to the God of Wealth in China, can trace its history back to the 14th year of Wanli during the Ming Dynasty (1586 AD), and has a history of more than 400 years.
 

上海财神庙旧时因所处地名“虹桥”而俗称虹桥庙，初建时为东岳庙，后又经历过城隍庙、娘娘庙等变迁。

Shanghai the God of Wealth Temple was commonly known as Hongqiao Temple in the past, due to its location in a place called Hongqiao. It was originally built as Dongyue Temple, but later changed its name to Chenghuang Temple(City God Temple) and then Niangniang Temple through different periods of history.

从清代光绪年间（1875年－1908年）至20世纪50年代，虹桥庙里便香火鼎盛，熙熙攘攘。旧时农历三月廿八前后这里会举办人潮汹涌的庙会，从这里走出的“虹桥庙会”，在过去还很出名。虹桥庙因繁荣兴旺一度是当地的城镇商业中心。后来因为历史变迁，道观遭到破坏，直到2008年才恢复开放。

During the Qing Dynasty from the Guangxu reign (1875-1908) to the 1950s, Hongqiao Temple was a thriving and bustling place of worship. Every year around the 28th day of the third lunar month, a crowded temple fair was held here, which was quite famous in the past and known as the "Hongqiao Temple Fair".In the past, due to its prosperity, Hongqiao Temple was once the commercial center of the local town. However, due to historical changes, the temple was destroyed and remained closed until 2008 when it was reopened.
 

到了现在，虽然财神庙内的主体建筑财神殿、慈航元辰殿都是后人重建的。但是东岳殿、观音殿均为早期建筑，经过修缮保存完好。道观内的慈航元辰殿堂前，还留存着两棵二百多年的银杏古树。不仅如此，庙内还有一座市级保护文物——清代乾隆年间修建的“洪德桥”。

现在的香客主要参拜正殿，即财神殿。殿堂为传统榫卯拼接的全木结构，没有一根钉子。殿内供奉正财神赵公明，神像为全国最大；左边供奉义财神和准财神刘河海蟾，右边是文财神比干和文财神范蠡。

Nowadays, most worshippers mainly visit the main hall, the the God of Wealth Hall. The hall is a traditional all-wood structure with mortise-and-tenon joints and no nails. Inside the hall, there is the statue of the God of Wealth, Zhao Gongming, which is the largest in the country. On the left, there are statues of the God of Charitable Wealth and the quasi God of Wealth, Liu Hehai and Chan Chu, respectively. On the right, there are statues of the God of Cultural Wealth, Bi Gan, and the God of Literature Wealth, Fan Li.
 

上海财神庙每年香火最旺的日子便是年初五迎财神那天。一大早便人山人海，去得稍微晚一些进门就要排上几小时队，请香、进主殿也都需要排队。由于人气实在太旺，当天驻扎在现场的消防队，会定时往香炉里浇水，以防造成火患。

The busiest day of the year for Shanghai the God of Wealth Temple is the day when worshippers welcome the God of Wealth on the 5th day of the first lunar month. Early in the morning, the temple is packed with people, and those who arrive a little later have to queue for several hours to get in and make offerings or enter the main hall. Due to the overwhelming crowds, the on-site fire brigade will periodically pour water into the incense burners to prevent fires.
