History of the New Ely Public Library: In early 2013, the City of Ely began looking for solutions to the problem of its aging (and limited accessibility) public buildings. As the only city department in the community center, the library was at the forefront of these discussions. In July 2013, the Ely city council voted for a plan that included a new library building located directly across from a renovated City Hall building with both buildings sharing a parking lot. Construction of the new building began in June of 2014, and the library moved into its new home in November of that year.
