Brookland School Trail

Safe parking is located just a few yards south of the Cache on the east side of HI-WAY 219 . You will see a locked gate and an old wagon trail leading east from the site. This was once a main trail in this area , It ran west from Hi-way 11 all the way to the east bank of the South Saskatchewan River. One half mile east of the Cache Site you may be able to see the remnants of the old Maple tree shelter belt that once surrounded the school yard. Brookland School served this area from 1917 until 1953 being relocated 3 times during its lifetime. The site here was the longest lived one SE 1/4 36 34 6 W3 from 1932 TO 1950 when it was moved to the river flats area aprox 3 1/2 miles north west of here. It closed as a school in 1953 and was later moved to Grasswood district to be used as an anex to Grasswood School.Brookland School drew students west to the river, south to Whitecap First Nation , north to one mile north of the correction line and east  to a point 1/2 mile east of Lorne Ave. At peak enrollement it may have had 15 to 20 pupils while at the end it had only 6 pupils and by 1955 it would have dropped to 3 .

In 2014 at a family gathering we had a reunion of sorts with 5 students of the 1947 year in attendance. I think that was about half of all 1947 students.

This is a popular pullout along 219 , please use some stealth and avoid creating a geo-trail to the cache.
