O miejscu
Zegar na wiezy ratuszowej w Oławie jest jej chyba najważniejszym zabytkiem.
Zegar astonomiczno - figuralny porónywalny jest co najmniej z Poznańskimi Koziołkami a może i zegarami figuralnymi Praskimi
Składa się on z czterech tarcz oraz czterech ruchomych figur: ruchomej kuli pokazującej fazy księżyca (zsynchronizowanej z mechnizmem wskazówkowym), dwóch figur poruszających się co godzinę tj. figury króla z berłem oraz koguta goniącego kurę (przypominam, że kogut, który jako symbol przywędrował tu wraz z tkaczami walońskimi jest herbem miasta) i ostatnią, chyba najbardziej charakterystycznej figurą oławskiej śmierci - poruszającej kosą co 15 minut.
Zegar ufundowała Ludwika Anhalcka, matka ostatniego Piasta z lini śląskiej i jednocześnie ostatniego z dynastii (z prawem dziedziczenia tytułu) - Jerzego Wilhelma (1660-1675), który został urodzony właśnie tu, w Oławie. Po śmierci syna oraz męża Ludwika zajęła się upamiętnianiem Piastów z lini książąt brzesko-legnickich fundując między innymi ich Mauzoleum w Legnicy. Być może zegar stanowił również próbę ich upamiętnienia w Oławie. Prace nad nim rozpoczęto w roku śmierci fundatorki, tj. 1680 i trwały do roku 1718. Zegar ukończono już za bytności w Oławie syna Jana III Sobieskiego, księcia Jakuba. Wg. podania pracę nad zegarem podejmowało kolejno trzech zegarmistrzów, tj. Daniel Kraut z Wrocławia, Christian Sallat z Brzegu oraz Rudolf Riebe z Wrocławia (nazwiska tłumaczone na polski brzmią Kapusta, Sałata i Rzepa).
W trakcie imprez masowych w mieście, np Nocy Muzeów, wieża jest dość często udostępniana do zwiedzania. Po drodze na taras można zobaczyć odrestaurowany mechanizm zegara.

About the place
The clock at the town hall tower in Oława is probably the most important monument of the town.
The astonomic-figural clock is comparable with the one in Poznań or maybe even the one in Prague.
It consists of four shieldclocks and four movable figures: a movable sphere showing the phases of the moon (synchronized with the pointer mechanism), two figures moving every hour, i.e. a figure of a king with a scepter and a rooster chasing a hen (I remind that the rooster, which a symbol came here with Walloon weavers is currently the crest of the city) and probably the most characteristic figure of "death from Oława" - a figure, which moves a scythe every 15 minutes.
A clock was funded by Ludwika Anhalcka, mother of the last Piast of the Silesian line and at the same time the last of the dynasty (at least the last with the right to inherit the title) - Jerzy Wilhelm (1660-1675), who was born in Oława. After the death of her son and husband, Ludwika began to commemorate the Piasts from the Brzeg-Legnica princes line, funding, among others, their Mausoleum in Legnica. Perhaps the clock was also an attempt to commemorate this line in Oława. Work on it began in the year of Ludwika's death, 1680, and took almost 40 years. The clock was finished in 1718 during the reign of Jakub Sobieski (son of Jan III Sobieski,one of the kings of Poland) in Oława. According to the legend the clock was done by the subsequent work of three clockmakers: Daniel Kraut of Wrocław, Christian Sallat of Brzeg and Rudolf Riebe of Wrocław (their surnames translated in English means: Cabbage, Lettuce and Turnip).
During some festivals in the city the tower is often opened for visit. During that times, when you are climbing upper the old staircase you can also visit the restored meachnism of the clock.

Proszę o uwagę. Miejsce może wymagać dyskrecji w podejmowaniu. Miłym akcentem byłoby zdjęcie ze śmiercią (najlepiej w ruchu) w logu. Pamiętajcie, maksymalnie czeka się 15 minut.
