Sovata este situata in judetul Mures, la 60 de kilometri de Targu Mures, si este cea mai mare asezare din tara salinei. Sovata este formată din două părți, orașul și Băile Sovata. În vecinătatea așezării se află numeroase lacuri sărate și două lacuri de apă dulce, cel mai mare fiind lacul Ursu. Lacurile Ursul, Alunis, Negru, Mierla, Verde și Roșu sunt lacuri sărate. Piroska și Edes-tó sunt lacuri dulci. Frații de la lacul Urșilor, lacul Alunis și lacul Negru sunt, de asemenea, din ce în ce mai populari, recent s-a deschis posibilitatea de a face baie.
