Belle Siddons - 1842 - unknown

Belle Siddons was raised on a plantation and worked as a spy during the Civil War. She was arrested and served a four month sentence before she was pardoned and released. She married a gambler who taught her to play cards, and she became a card dealer. After the death of her husband, she moved to South Dakota during the gold rush where she operated a saloon and gambling hall under the name of Madame Vestal. She re-married a stage coach robber, where she again took to spying by gathering information from drivers about shipments in advance. However, she slipped up and revealed her role as a spy, for which her husband was hanged. She fell to drinking and eventually died in jail.
