Imagine a civilization where only women are allowed to write. A warlike society that considers it indecent for a man to know even how to read - after all, shouldn’t they be more concerned with manly things like fighting, conquest, and dying from infection in faraway lands? Leave engineering and writing to women.
An interesting alternate reality, perhaps. One that does not exist in our world, but through the magic of literature one that can be explored by us nevertheless. Ironically, through reading - something I wouldn’t be able to do if I was born into this other world’s society.
In such an alien world, perhaps the writing system would appear different to ours as well. It only makes sense - just look at how many different characters, alphabets, and syllabaries we have just on our own tiny planet. Perhaps, it would even look like…
