Geocache Description:

The Keuka Outlet Trail runs about 7 miles from Keuka Lake in Penn Yan to Seneca Lake in Dresden, along the Keuka Outlet.  The trail began as a towpath along the outlet for transporting grain and was eventually converted to a railway before finally returning to the trail we now enjoy.  Along the trail, walkers can see a number of waterfalls, the sites of many former mills, "Turtle Pond", and many other sights.  Today, the Outlet Trail is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike as they walk, bike, and ride its beautiful length.

This cache highlights Schutt's Mill and there is a good chance you'll miss it if you stick to the trail.  This was the 1st industrial mill in Yates County and at one time or another served as a sawmill, cotton factory mill, fulling mill (woll/cloth mill), wrought iron mill, grist mill, and a paper mill.  As a result of continued expansion, the mill stretched a length of 300 ft in 1925.  Schutt's mill met it's demise, on October 31st,1933 from a fire.  For more information, check out the Keuka Outlet Trail Audio Tour available on their website.

If you're curious and want to explore, follow the water and see just how big the site is.  You may need to duck, so watch your head.  The cache is a medium sized plastic container.  BYOP.
