Ever since he was a kid, Cian dreamt of California; camping, sailing, fishing
and sitting at a campfire, belly full of marshmallows with his sailor father.
His Irish mother had been charmed by his smooth-talking father in Venice
with his rugged good looks and rough skin from a life on the open water.

The day they met he'd taken her out on his angular headed sailing boat.
Her first time off dry land, she dropped her Bosca satchel bag in the canal.
Not being materialistic or having a temper ordinarily, she laughed it off
and afterwards they shared a kiss under the marbled pillars in the piazza.

That was just one of his Italian father's many stories of his time on water.
He had sailed far and wide on magical lakes and Eastern seas all his life
and he would always spin yarns of his great adventures at Cian's bedtime.
Consequently Cian could not wait for his first trip on his father's boat.

He had told Cian perilous tales of storms whilst out on the Pacific ocean.
Trying to navigate through high crested waves on his small sailing boat.
The time his boat disturbed a saltwater crocodile in Australian wetlands
and when he nearly stepped on a red-bellied black snake in the outback.

When the time comes Cian would settle for a more simple alpine adventure.
A fishing trip on a European mountain lake somewhere appealed greatly
or sailing on a European brook or river, both seemed far less dangerous.
These plans were just easier rather than face the treacherous open seas.

Cian searched his room for a prinicipal material to make a flag for his boat.
He had already banded together some tent poles to use for a flag mast.
He decided his gold striped curtains would be ideal, however he knew that
his mother would thwart yanking the bedroom drapes down for that purpose.

His adventure was coming and it would be quite the spectacle Dad promised
but for now he put on his ribbed vest and white shoes for a local fishing trip.
He grabbed his paddle tail bait and fishing rod and met his father in the hall
the rod between his knobby knees he hugged his mum and headed out to fish.
