This collection of caches has nothing to do with the Church Micro series in the UK. Given that the Australian 2021 census indicates that No Religion and Jedi Knight are still the fastest increasing classifications of the optional religion question "What is the person's religion?" it is not surprising that there is surfeit of empty churches that have been repurposed.
St Nicholas Anglican Church
The former St Nicholas Anglican Church hosted its last service in 2018 and was sold to a Melbourne family the following year. They have secured local builders and trades personnel to undertake a $550,000 renovation and extension of the building to create a dwelling. The terracotta tiled roof has been replaced with iron and solar panels while a new front entrance has been created in what was formerly the sanctuary. A spiral staircase has been erected next to the tower. The builiding constructed in Mt Gambier limestone was erected over 100 years ago and formerly contained a number of memorials to notable Beachport citizens. A plaque records: To the Glory of God - and in honour of - Saint Nicholas - this stone was laid by - Captain Richard Solly, - January 10th 1923. The building, when completed, will be used by the family for holidays and rented out as accommodation for others looking for a getaway in Beachport.
