Coton in the Elms - St Mary

This church is part of a combined benefice covering 8 churches in the area. I'd like to thank the Team Rector and the Team Vicar for their encouragement and support to place church micros at these 8 churches in the combined benefice. I've placed caches at Coton in the Elms, Croxall, Linton, Netherseal, Overseal, Rosliston and Walton upon Trent. There is an existing cache at Lullington where the church is also part of this benefice.
The present church was built in 1846 by Henry Stevens but not on the site of the original church, which was behind the Shoulder of Mutton pub. It has a narrow west tower with a recessed spire. It is generally believed that when the original church fell into disrepair, the bells were taken to the neighbouring Lullington village, so the inhabitants of Coton can still hear the old bells when the wind is in the right direction.
This cache is a simple hide just outside the churchyard. Please exercise steath and be considerate of neighbouring properties when visiting.
