The Geocaching 101 Series
Welcome to AMNHA's Geogaching 101 Series. This series is designed for newer geocachers who may not be as familiar with different types of geocaches or where to begin on these. Please do not be overwhelmed by the text you may see. We're trying to break it up for easier reading. As mentioned, this is a way to help expand your knowledge of the various levels this game has to offer.
Your Adventure and Finding this Cache
Take note that there are waypoints provided for several parking options.
One will bring you near the lake and will allow you to explore the paved trails leading to the Nature Center. The other will allow you to park near the Nature Center.
When you arrive at the Nature Center, walk to you left and you will see a well creft Little Free Library. You are looking for a container hidden inside of it.
Please be sure to return cache to its hiding spot so others may enjoy the fun.

What is a Traditional cache?
You may have heard the phrase "I use multi-million dollar satellites to find tupperware in the woods." Well, that joke isn't far from being true.
A traditional cache is the most straightforward in this game. Here a single container (of any size) is hidden and you are asked to find it using the coordinates provided. This type of geocache is based on the very first container that was hidden around 2000.
Remember, the cache container you will be looking for will vary in size. The locations where it is hidden will vary as well.
A few tips to consider while looking for a geocache.
What will I find in a geocache? Every geocache will have a logbook. The main rule in the game is to find the cache and sign the log book. Logging your find online or in the app is an added bonus for you to track what you have found. Trade items or swag can be found in larger caches. Trust remember to trade equally.
Any geocache container can be simple or creative. The creativeness adds an extra level of fun to the searching. In our series of caches, we tend to lean to containers that are kid friendly. Hopefully, this will spark your interest in searching for more geocaches.
Geocache owners try to provide a pen in a cache, if they can. Just know, that even though signing logs is required to claim the find, providing a pen is not required. Be sure to bring a pen with you in case one is not available.
Sometimes a geocache may be part of a series that requires you to collect a code or password. Be sure to look all over this geocache for a password. You will need that later to complete the passports and claim a prize.

What is a Waypoint and How Do I Use Them?
A "waypoint" is a key location, mark, or stopping place used as a landmark or control point for navigation. It can lead to a point of interest, a trailhead, parking or where the geocache is hidden
Knowing how to record a waypoint can be very useful. You can use to mark where you left your car. You can use it to mark a trail when you head off into the woods. You can use it to mark something that caught your attention while exploring. There are a number of ways you can use Waypoints in your geocaching life.
Waypoints can be easily added in the geocaching app (Other apps have this ability as well).

Why is there a geocache here?
A cache owner tries to bring your attention to a location or something they find interesting. It could be a scenic view, a structure, a historical spot or a location they hold dearly. On occasion, the cache location may not meet any of those ideas. So, why hide it then? Well, there are all types of cachers out there. It's possible that they are wanting to add to our fun. And in some areas, they do not have much to work with. So, they try to make the best of it.
For this geocache, we wanted to bring you to Panola Mountain State Park's scenic views and trails. As an added bonus, we wanted you to see the craftwork that was done when creating this Little Free Library.
This is your adventure. Feel free to look for geocaches that catch your interest.
