As we wandered down this unmaintained road, we speculated about why there were no homes here. Whimsically, we populated the road with characters from fairy tales, but we altered the stories when we realized how cruel the classic tales are.
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl named Snow White who lived with the Seven Dwarfs. They picked this spot to live because it was close to work for the dwarfs. If you listen very carefully, you can still hear them singing “Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It’s off to the quarry we go.”
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs lived an idyllic life in the woods. The one fly in the ointment was that Snow White couldn’t cook. Although she tried hard, the poor dwarfs routinely suffered through under-, or over-cooked meals.
Now, there was a witch nearby who thought she was the most beautiful woman in the area. After Snow White and the dwarfs arrived, the witch’s mirror told her that Snow White was the fairest of them all. Although the witch couldn’t believe that Snow White’s beauty surpassed her own, she decided to visit Snow White to find out for herself. What a shock to find out that Snow White was indeed a beautiful girl. Snow White gave the witch some beauty tips. In exchange, the witch taught Snow White to cook. The two continued to meet regularly, swapping advice and recipes. Soon, the witch’s mirror said they were both beautiful and Snow White could cook tasty meals, and they all (especially the dwarfs) lived happily ever after.
