X-tra Late July: Picky's Semi-Lunchy Last Friday Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

frumiousb: All done! Thanks again for meeting up - and for discovering the bubble machine, @schwandt!. I had fun too :)

Had intended a second here the last Friday in August but I'd mis-read their schedule (the 20th was the final summer market day) and by then had missed the deadline for scheduling an event that weekend. Dang it. Hopefully next summer.

Enjoy the rest of this one.

Geocache Description:

28 July 2023, 11:15 - 12:15

Friday midday meetup at a new venue!

Lunchtime-ish OUTDOOR meetup at Cox Farms' summer marketplace picnic tables, under the sunshades.  Hang out, share trackables, chat.  Friends, family, neighbors, etc. all welcome.  Lots to entertain the kiddos.  Making this event an hour long to give folks enough time to get there and to play games if anyone wants to.

There is NO cost to be here and there's stuff to interest all ages, including a large Jenga set and outdoor chess, a stationary wooden train to "ride", and animal-shaped benches.  There are small slides for younger kids within view and lawn games a bit away from where we're meeting.

Leashed, friendly dogs OK where we're meeting and in *some* other parts of the location (see below).  CO's doggo will likely not attend.

You are absolutely NOT required to purchase anything but if you get a craving they do sell drinks and a few snacks (mostly fruit, pickles, nuts, and a couple of desserts).  They do *not* sell full meals on Fridays but they've said you're welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks.

You might also want sunscreen and a hat - or an umbrella.

We'll be there if it's hot or in a light drizzle; if there's thunder & lightning &/or heavy downpour, we might need to cancel, so watch this page.  We'll also cancel if it's Code Purple air or possibly Code Red.

Surface is dirt/gravel and mostly level - should be easily wheelchair/stroller accessible.  There is handicapped parking about 100' give or take from where we're meeting.  Those on crutches or with a walker/cane might want to watch for tripping hazards since parts are a bit uneven, but it should still be a T1.

CO contacted Cox folks well ahead of time and they're happy to have us.  Restriction is that groups are limited to ONE table under the shaded area for an hour.  The tables are long picnic tables, so we should have no problem fitting.  Other seating is limited to two tables for two hours.

They wrote:  "...leashed dogs are welcome up to the area where the animal pens begin, but not beyond that point. There are lots of picnic tables available closer to the plants, retail area, food, and stage, and dogs are welcome in those areas. Most of the field games are located beyond that area, so if you wanted to also play cornhole, frisbee, etc., then dogs would not be allowed in that area."  No alcohol, weapons, smoking, or illegal drugs allowed, so this is not the place to do a beer swap.  The summer market is NOT the same as the fall festival; none of that stuff is available.  See their website for additional info.

CO is checking to see if restroom (likely port-a-potty, if any) facilities will be available.

Physical address:  corner of Braddock Road and Pleasant Valley Road.  Use the parking coords for navigation else your mapping service might try to get you there via a non-entrance route.  Only apparent parking entrance is off of Braddock just west of the little traffic circle.

It does NOT appear to have a nearby bus stop, nor a safe walking route to the nearest stops.

If you might be contagious at this event, we look forward to seeing you at a future event instead.  Thanks for thinking of your fellow cachers.
