Geocache Description:

The cache is placed at the start of the footpath from the village recreation field to the old Water Tower.

The concrete tower, still standing, was commisioned and built in 1934 at an astonishing £1,388 18s 8d, equivalent to over £110,000 today. It operated by pumping spring water over half a mile using a 2 stroke engine with a wind turbine as a backup. It has a capacity of 33,000 gallons and is believed to have been decommissioned in 1954. In recent years there was a rumour that it had been made a grade 2 listed building, but this turned out not to be true.

One of a group of caches placed in, or nearby, the rural village of Yardley Gobion.
This 'series' is designed for caching beginners by providing extra helpful hints.
Those more experienced cachers should therefore avoid looking at the hints!

[Also, for a short period, there will be a second log sheet to allow local children's clubs including Guides, Scouts etc. to be introduced to Geocaching by an adult leader. This 2nd log will be clearly labeled as temporary, allowing the children to experience geocaching properly by signing a log.]

Enjoy the hunt!
