Welcome back to the Tatura Recreation Reserve for what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to this already wonderful World Cup Final between the Southern Stars and the Eastern Emus. After 40 overs of this clash between the top two sides of 2023 they couldn’t be split, both finishing on 167. So, a Super Over will decide the 2023 World Cup Champions.

Tatura’s own Catnap777 and Dalerious will open the batting for the Stars. They’ve been a great combination all season, so for the Stars sake, hopefully they can get the job done today. And it looks like the Emus have handed the ball to WeAreGleesos to try and restrict the Stars to a gettable score.

Catnap777, a recent recruit from the Northern Numbats will face the first ball. WeAreGleesos pushes off the sidescreen and runs in to deliver the first ball to Catnap777. It’s a beautiful out swinging delivery but Catnap777 manages to get an edge to it and the ball runs down to the vacant third man position. Pichler Tribe sprints round from deep point and manages to cut the ball off before it rolls into the rope with a magnificent dive. Catnap777 and Dalerious come back for the third so Dalerious will now be on strike for the second ball.

WeAreGleesos comes in again, pitches short and Dalerious goes bang! The ball sails high and wide towards cow corner. AndrewRaymondShaw runs around from deep backward square but all he can do is watch the ball sail over his head for a maximum.

The next ball from WeAreGleesos is pitched up and all Dalerious can do is play it back down the pitch, past WeAreGleesos to deep mid-off. Dalerious immediately calls two and sets off towards the non-striker’s end Catnap777 is slow to respond and turns for the second just as the ball is fired in from gleesonstribe. Catnap777 sets off as the ball is in the air, she dives towards the line, creating a cloud of dust just as WeAreGleesos whips off the bails. What is the decision here? Umpire CybergranV decides to refer the decision to the third umpire so it’s all up to Bunjil to have a look at the vision and make a decision. After looking at every angle the decision appears on the scoreboard. NOT OUT!

WeAreGleesos in again and Dalerious goes the ramp shot. It clears the rope easily. The Southern Stars are looking good at this stage.

Two balls to go and WeAreGleesos makes a few changes to the field. There’s a plan forming here to get Dalerious out. WeAreGleesos pitches short and Dalerious tries to hook the ball but gets a top edge and the ball flies away towards the fine leg boundary. Lucypatrick runs a few metres to her left and takes the catch but unfortunately she's on the wrong side of the boundary rope and Dalerious survives.

Last ball of the super over for the Southern Stars. WeAreGleesos delivers an absolute seed. Somehow Dalerious manages to get bat on it and pushes the ball towards cover and immediately set off for a couple of runs. They turn and set off for the second but oh no, mid pitch disaster they have both received a notification on their phones of a newly published cache, and with their heads down they crash into each other and down they go. The throw goes to the bowler's end and Dalerious is run out. He’s not too disappointed because now he can go and chase a FTF and all his usual competition is still involved in this game so he should be right. And what do you know, Catnap777 doesn’t want to miss out on a joint FTF and has joined Dalerious running off the ground. Thankfully it appears neither of them are hurt after that collision.

Another twist in this super over, WeAreGleesos has overstepped the crease and CybergranV’s arm is out. What was supposed to be the last ball will have to be bowled again. Luckily for WeAreGleesos, Dalerious and Catnap777 are gone, and a new batsman will have to face the last ball.

LizzieandE wander out to the middle to face the last ball of the super over for the Southern Stars. WeAreGleesos goes with a slower ball, but LizzieandE pick it and smash the ball long, wide and about 20 rows back.

A fantastic super over for the Southern Stars, scoring 31, that will be very difficult for the Eastern Emus to chase down and claim this prestigious World Cup Trophy.

Can the Eastern Emus chase down the Southern Stars score of 31? Everything will have to go right, and they have made the decision to open with Chapples284, a very appropriate cricketing name to start this innings.

And a surprise from the Southern Stars, they have opted to give the ball to their youngest player BlakesLifeGEOCACHING to bring the victory home. Interesting move to go with a leg spinner as opposed to a pace bowler.

BlakesLifeGEOCACHING starts with a nervous wide down leg side. That ball will have to be bowled again.

Chapples284 goes the reverse sweep to the second delivery and makes good contact and the ball races across the outfield into the boundary rope.

BlakesLifeGEOCACHING delivers a cracking leg spinning delivery and Chapples284 just manages to edge the ball past the keeper. SpyInc runs round from gully and fires the ball in as Chapples284 have almost completed the single. The ball misses the stumps and disaster for the Southern Stars. The Blind Side is blindsided, trips, falls and misses the throw from SpyInc. It races across the beautiful Tatura outfield and into the boundary rope.

BlakesLifeGEOCACHING fires the next delivery down leg side. CybergranV’s arms are outstretched but Locus Cache has whipped off the bails. We head up to Bunjil, the third umpire for this one. NOT OUT. Chapples284’s foot was grounded when the bails were struck. Unfortunately for BlakesLifeGEOCACHING, that ball will have to be bowled again.

The next ball is tossed up and Chapples284 is up to the task, driving the ball all the way along the ground to the cover boundary.

BlakesLifeGEOCACHING tosses the ball up again and this time Chapples284 goes whack. The ball has gone high, very high. If there was a roof on this stadium like at the Docklands the ball definitely would have hit it. Chapples284 start running as the ball doesn’t look like coming down for a long time. They turn for the second as the ball starts to come back down to earth. Locus Cache with the wicketkeeping gloves on gets under it. Chapples284 turn for the third run. The ball is thundering towards Locus Cache’s gloves, she positions herself well. There are emoji’s everywhere but she’s in good position. The ball thumps into her gloves but bounces out, no need to worry, Rex, the ever reliable companion is right by Locus Cache’s side as always and saves the day by grabbing the ball as if scoffing a dog treat and the catch is taken and Chapples284 are on their way back to the pavilion.

GeoShibalnu stride to the crease with a lot of work to do to secure victory.

And Dalerious and Catnap777 have returned with big smiles on their faces. It looks like they’ve snared another Joint FTF. Back just in time to celebrate what is looking like a victory to the Southern Stars unless things go horribly wrong from here.

The Eastern Emus are going to need a miracle to win from here. They will be relying on wides or no balls from BlakesLifeGEOCACHING to win this game. The pressure is on the youngster to bowl two legal deliveries. As most young people have these days, he has the self-assuredness and confidence that us older adults don’t, to get the job done.

A beautifully flighted delivery from BlakesLifeGEOCACHING and all GeoShilbalnu can manage is a single to long on.

One ball to go and the Eastern Emus need 16 runs. As long as this is a legal delivery, the victory will go to the Southern Stars.

BlakesLifeGEOCACHING comes in, makes sure he doesn’t overstep the mark and bowls a well flighted delivery outside off stump. GeoShibalnu goes bang and sends the ball flying towards the mid-wicket boundary. They run one and set off for the second as the ball is fired back into Locus Cache. She whips off the bails and GeoShibalnu are short of their ground.

Victory and the World Cup Championship to the Southern Stars by 14 runs.

A fantastic day here at the Tatura Recreation Reserve and a cracking game which, after a Super Over has ended in a victory to the Southern Stars. The Eastern Emus will be disappointed, but they put in a wonderful performance to ensure the game went to a Super Over.
