Lancelot Brown (born c1715–16, baptised 30 August 1716 – 6 February 1783) - England’s greatest 18th century landscape gardener.
He was nicknamed “Capability” because he would tell his clients that their property had “capability” for improvement.
‘Capability’ Brown had moved in 1751 to Hammersmith Mall beside the Thames with his wife, Bridget and their young family. He stayed there for 13 years until being appointed Royal Gardener by George III with a grace and favour house at Hampton Court Palace. He moved to Hammersmith to be near the numerous tree and plant nurseries in the area.
It was sculpted by the talented and internationally known sculptor, Laury Dizengremel
