With Australia and New Zealand hosting the 2023 Women’s Football (some may say soccer) World Cup I thought a cache in honour of our Matildas was in order.
Could you just imagine our Aussie girls making it thru to the final? I can just picture it now.
Courtney Nevin passes the ball back to our goalie, Lydia Williams, she passes it back to Nevin. Nevin who has amazing foot control, goes around the world before a long pass to Courtnee Vine. Vine weaves through three opponents before passing the ball to Claire Polkinghorne. A bit of juggling from Polkinghorne who is met by a strong defence so she passes the ball all the way back to Nevin. Nevin switches the ball to Aivi Luik. Luik quickly passes off to Claire Polkinghorne as she crosses the halfway mark. Nevin has run on and Polkinghorne passes back to her. In doing so she nutmegs her opponent. Luik is open on the far side and sprinting into the box. Nevin fires the ball in and Luik leaps into the air heading the ball into the back of the net.
