La centrale di Campovico fu costruita tra il 1899 e il 1901 e nel 1902 i treni valtellinesi cominciarono a essere elettrificati. In Italia era il primo esperimento sull’impiego dell’elettricità per il trasporto di passeggeri e merci su lunghe distanze e sfruttava l’energia elettrica prodotta proprio dalla centrale di Campovico. Ormai dismessa, da tempo è in vendita e al centro di diversi progetti di recupero che non si sono mai concretizzati.
Una serie di gallerie e canali portavano l’acqua alle turbine passando da un locale-cisterna poche decine di metri sopra la centrale; lì dovrete cercare la letterbox che contiene registro, matita e timbro; non il tampone.
Le coordinate sono di un punto esterno della struttura; la letterbox si trova a non più di due metri di distanza ma, ahimè, non basta allungarsi per prenderla..
Cercare questa cache presuppone di percorrere un breve sentiero, ampiamente invaso dalla vegetazione e (stagionalmente) da rovi e poi scendere e salire nella cisterna utilizzando vecchi gradini in ferro arrugginito. Anche l’esplorazione esterna della struttura richiede prudenza. Il recupero (e il registro) della cache avviene in una posizione potenzialmente pericolosa e in cui occorre reggersi saldamente.
E’ necessario portare una pila frontale, inoltre sono consigliati: abbigliamento protettivo per i rovi, guanti, caschetto e una assicurazione per la discesa e salita nella cisterna.
Caldamente raccomandata: una assicurazione (imbrago e moschettone) che vi tenga ancorati liberando le mani mentre recuperate e compilate il registro.

The Campovico power plant was built between 1899 and 1901 and in 1902 the Valtellina trains began to be electrified. In Italy it was the first experiment on the use of electricity for the transport of passengers and goods over long distances and exploited the electricity produced by the Campovico power plant. Now abandoned, it has been on sale for some time and has been at the center of several recovery projects that have never materialised.
A series of tunnels and canals carried the water to the turbines passing from a tank-room a few tens of meters above the plant; there you will have to look for the letterbox that contains register, pencil and stamp; not the tampon.
The coordinates are of an external point of the structure; the letterbox is located no more than two meters away but, alas, it is not enough to reach out to pick it up..
Searching for this cache requires following a short path, widely overgrown with vegetation and (seasonally) brambles and then going up and down the cistern using old rusty iron steps. External exploration of the structure also requires caution. Cache retrieval (and logging) takes place in a potentially dangerous position where you need to stand firmly.
It is necessary to bring a headlamp, and the following are also recommended: protective clothing for brambles, gloves, a helmet and insurance for descending and ascending the cistern.
Strongly recommended: an insurance (harness and carabiner) that keeps you anchored, freeing your hands while you collect and fill in the register.
