Geocache Description:

16 August 2023, 11:00 - 11:30

For those who have an available day given the Birbane Ekka People's Day public holiday ...

Mount Maroon is a scenic viewpoint in Mount Barney National Park, and it provides some of the best views in South-East Queensland. On a clear day, there can be 360-degree views ranging from Lamington National Park through Mt Barney, the length of Main Range and the Moogerah Peaks.

The track leaves from the end of Cotswold Road which turns south of Boonah-Rathdowney Road 2.7 km east of Maroon township. The track ends at a small dam about 3.5 km from the turnoff.

This is considered a challenging route! This trail is great for hiking and walking, it is open year-round, and is beautiful to visit anytime.

The event location should allow a great lunch opportunity to discuss our geocaching adventures to date, and future adventures to come!

Where: Mount Maroon, Mount Barney National Park
When: 11:00 - 11:30 hr, Wednesday 16/08/2023.
[Note: The CO will be present at the event location for the scheduled event duration.]

Should you wish to join the CO in walking to the event location, then plan on meeting at 07:00 hr at the parking waypoint.

This is a challenging hike due to the steepness of many sections. You need a certain amount of fitness to negotiate all the challenges of the trail.

To Bring:

This is not an exhaustive list, but the following should be considered:

  • Hiking gear: a hiking medium backpack, long trousers and shirt with long sleeve, light raincoat, very recommended hiking ankle supportive boots;
  • first aid kit;
  • insect repellent (it works for leeches - give preference to cream or roll on that are more environmentally friendly than the spray);
  • sunscreen;
  • gloves;
  • walking poles (if you like to use them);
  • sock protectors or gaiters;
  • Water, 3.0 litres (or more if it's a hot day);
  • Lunch (sandwich?); and
  • Snacks, fruit, energy bars, etc.
