***I don't think Lou's ghost is too fond of TB's. It seems that everytime someone leaves one here, they are stolen, along with some of the cache contents. Please do not leave TB's in this cache.****
Cache is a small ammo box hidden near "Kuchler's Roost"on Mt Penn.
Lou Kuchler was known as "The Hermit of Mt Penn. It is said that he didn't leave the mountain for 2 years. His winery was a stop on the Mt Penn Gravity Railroad. The remnants of a wine cellar are nearby.
Your journey begins at the Antietam Lake area. Parking is at
N40 21.392 - W 75 52.469. Take the small foot trail facing south (crosses over some running water). This will lead you in the direction of the Ferndale Nature Center. There is a sign marking the Ferndale trail. You will be following the yellow blazes.
Be aware that after you reach the second leveling after a short walk, you turn left and it looks like a dead end. It's very deceiving. If you walk to the end, you will see the trail is marked and takes a sharp right uphill. It's all easy from there!
Dog owners: You must cross a road at one point, so be advised. I'd say it is about 3/4 of the way to the cache.(To those of you who like the shorter, easier routes, use your GPSr to find the road!)
*Please cover cache well. This is a popular hiking destination!
