INTERNATIONAL GEOCACHING DAY 2023
International Geocaching Day takes place every third Saturday in August — August 19 this year. It can be a day for people of all ages gather to commemorate the placement and discovery of geocaches all across the world. Geocaching was born as a result of the general public’s access to G.P.S. Dave Ulmer planted the first geocache on May 3, 2000. The cache, according to Ulmer, was a black plastic bucket filled with software, D.V.D.s, books, money, a can of beans, and a slingshot and whilst the swag may have changed over the years, Geocaches have been found over 600 million times since their beginning in early 2000 and on every continent on Earth. In fact, we've been celebrating this game with its own International Geocaching day since 2011 , the hobby seems to have more people trying it out all the time.
So, in case you don't have much of an idea where to locate your next find or just want to chat with someone who has found more than the odd geocache, you could head down the Strand rock pool for 30 minutes or so this upcoming Saturday. No doubt it will be a nice day here in paradise to chat all things Geo.
