Geocache Description:

Zadaci

  2. Procijenite visinu jame.
  3. Objavljujte fotografije vas i jame u vašem zapisu. Slike s broda se prihvaćaju.

 Meraška Pit

Meraška Pit (or Merag's pit) is an unusual geomorphological structure carved into a slope to the right of the ferry dock and village of Merag. The pit is a good example of a collapse sinkhole. In the karst relief, it is one of the most interesting forms that is the result of processes both on the surface and in the karst underground. It was created by the collapse of the ceiling of a large underground cavity (cave, pit or cavern). The collapse could have been gradual or initiated by an earthquake. Steep slopes are subsequently shaped by the erossion of slope processes: erosion and subsidence, and during intense rainfall, by washing and dredging. At the bottom of the sinkhole these processes caused abundant  accumulations of rubble and stone blocks. Due to its shape, depth and shade, the pond has a specific microclimate with modified air temperature and increased air and soil humidity, so the vegetation is different than on the surrounding slopes of Cres.

Logging tasks
Before you log the earth cache you have to send the correct answers to the questions. Reply via my profile. Logging the earth cache should be done right after sending the answers. I will delete the logs without answers. Brief instructions for use: I send answers and then I log the earth cache.
For details on earth cache requirements, see here.

Answer three questions:

  1. Describe the difference between the rocks on the side and the bottom of the pit.
  2. Estimate the height of the pit.
  3. Post photos of you and the pit in your post. Pictures from the ship are accepted.
