This is one of a series of caches placed by BettwsEarlyYearsTeam. We have placed these caches to encourage families in Bettws to get out and about to appreciate the beautiful scenery around the estate.
The series is based on nursery rhymes, and we encourage you to sing the relevant nursery rhyme after you've found the cache! If you're not sure of the words, look it up, or ask us - we are happy to help!
The first new residents arrived in Bettws during October 1961, and many of them had mixed feelings about moving. After living in Newport, Bettws could feel very rural and isolated. In the early years the bus service was infrequent and it was difficult to visit family and friends. Local amenities were only built after the housing was complete. Some early residents complained that it felt like a ‘ghost town’. But there was a lot to be excited about too. Many had been living in overcrowded accommodation with an outside toilet. Their new homes were spacious, modern and light, they had a front and back garden, and, most importantly, they had an inside toilet and running hot water.
Tweezers will be useful for most of the caches in our series. You will also need your own pen.
The estate is busy, so look out for muggles - stealth may be required to retrieve the cache.
Congratulations to Lomakx and WalkingGB being the first joint FTF!
