Geocache Description:

28 October 2023, 19:30 - 21:00

Ah Halloween.... The only time of year where you can dress as your favorite character and people don't take a double look at you!

This event was made to celebrate all who can't Trick or Treat anymore.... Or who really like geocaching.

At this event, There will be a costume contest, where anyone can wear any type of costume of any kind, and at the end, (if you'd like,) you write down the username of the person you thought had the best costume! We count the votes and the winner gets a halloween trophy!

You can also bring any type of Halloween decorations or small halloween stuff if you'd like.

The Event is at 308 SE 291 Hwy
Lee’s Summit, MO 64063 from 7:30 to 9 PM or later

People celebrate Halloween in many ways! If you have children it's likely costume shopping and taking your kids Trick or Treating! But for some it's about being scared! Binging all the classic horror movies! from Friday the 13th to The Chainsaw Massacre! For some it's about the comfort of fall, when the leaves turn a beautiful yellow and orange, Sipping on a pumpkin spice latte.

Personally, I enjoy relaxing with relaxing halloween specials or movies. My Favorites are Hocus Poucus, It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!, The nightmare before christmas, Beetlejuice, and those Halloween baking shows! Those always relax me. Or any of my favorite show specials. You can write your favourite Fall/halloween movie in your attending log! Curious to see what the most popular is

Whether or not you like Halloween, Fall is America's favorite holiday, with a Whopping 41% of adults saying fall is their favorite time of the year. That's More than Any other season! Not even good old St. Nick can compete with ghouls and goblins!

But, now to think of it, why do we even like halloween? More importantly, why even trick or treat? Who decided that every year, Americans are expected to give random children wearing costumes who are threatening them that if they dont give them candy, they're going to get tricked? And why do we carve pumpkins? Well, first, let's answer why we celebrate halloween. It all started in roughly the 1700s-1800s when it was believed that on October 31st, The veil between the Mortal realm and Demon/evil spirits realm was at its thinnest, and evil spirits would roam the streets in an attempt to do whatever evil spirits do. Well, people thought that If they wore costumes the evil spirits would get scared of them and go away!

Pretty solid plan if you ask me. Well that explains halloween and costumes, but what about trick or treating?

Well, It is suggested that trick-or-treating evolved from a tradition whereby people impersonated the spirits, or the souls of the dead, and received offerings on their behalf. Which basically means The people in the evil spirit costumes would receive gifts on behalf of warding away the spirits. For a long time, those gifts were hand baked treats, until the 1900s when candy companies realised they could sell candy to house-wives, because its MUCH easier giving out individually packaged candies then baking in the kitchen all day.

And finally, the Jack o lanterns, My favourite story of all! It all starts from a legend in 17th  Century Europe, where the story goes that a very smart man named  Stingy jack, did the impossible. He Somehow outsmarted the devil and trapped him. He made a promise to the devil that he would release him IF the devil never let him go to hell. But it's not that easy. You see, The Devil is smart. He knows that Jack won't be let into Heaven either. So he agrees.

The devil is let free and stingy Jack Is left feeling like he's invincible. He does whatever he pleases knowing he can never go to hell. However, one day Jack dies, and is DENIED HEAVEN! The devil actually feels remorse for Jack, and gives him a Certain vegetable with a glowing face carved into it. that vegetable is a.... turnips. Not a Pumpkin. So people in England would put candles inside of carved turnips on Halloween to guide Jack on his journey, searching endlessly for somewhere to go....

But wait... Where did the pumpkins come in? Well, during a European famine, many Europeans were moving to America, where turnips were less common, so they began carving into PUMPKINS!
