#4 Vamos ao Porto do Pedregal
O Porto do Pedregal está localizado a norte da Ilha do Porto Santo, na Enseada dos Barbeiros, também conhecida como a Enseada do Guilherme. É uma enseada protegida pela Ponta da Cruz. Neste local, desagua a Ribeira dos Barbeiros. Aqui, situa-se o Calhau do Porto do Pedregal.
Porto do Pedregal is located to the north of Porto Santo Island, in Enseada dos Barbeiros, also known as Enseada do Guilherme. It is a cove protected by Ponta da Cruz. In this place, flows the Ribeira dos Barbeiros. Here is located the Calhau do Porto do Pedregal.
Poderá observar vários elementos de elevado interesse, como a vegetação, a fauna, as formações geomorfológicas, algumas das características geológicas, a curiosa linha de costa, as inúmeras praias de calhau ao longo das enseadas, os picos, os vales, os cabeços, as pontas, entre outros. Quanto ao relevo, predomina o solo irregular, por vezes escarpado e declivoso. Contudo, o trilho é sempre seguro, sendo que estas condições físicas ocorrem em torno do trilho.
You will be able to observe several elements of high interest, such as the vegetation, the fauna, the geomorphological formations, some of the geological characteristics, the curious coastline, the countless pebble beaches along the coves, the peaks, the valleys, the bollards, the spikes, among others. As for the relief, irregular soil predominates, sometimes steep and sloping. However, the trail is always safe, as these physical conditions occur around the trail.
A nível geológico o Porto do Pedregal e as áreas circundantes são escoadas submarinas de basalto do Miocénico inferior. Já no início do trilho e ao longo deste encontrará maioritariamente escoadas de hialoclastitos e depósitos vulcanoclástitos submarinos do Miocénico médio e também do miocénico inferior (menor área).
On a geological level, Porto do Pedregal and the surrounding areas are underwater basalt drains from the lower Miocene. Already at the beginning of the trail and along it you will find mostly hyaloclastites and submarine volcanoclastite deposits from the middle Miocene and also from the lower Miocene (smaller area).
Em termos humanos/sociais, existem diversos registos de um aglomerado populacional aqui existe até à década de 40/50. Existem diversos assentamentos que comprovam este aglomerado, e inclusive, através da estrutura arquitetónica dos assentamentos, é percetível que não tinham apenas a finalidade agrícola. O núcleo habitacional do sítio do Pedregal, por muitos anos ali prosperou, já que estavam protegidos dos corsários, tinham um porto abrigado pela Ponta da Cruz, que apesar de estar na costa norte, detém águas mais calmas, pela maior precipitação, já que as vertentes estão exposta a norte, e consequentemente, tem uma menor insolação atmosférica. Apesar de estarem mais exposto aos ventos, em geral, possuíam melhores condições. Com o evoluir dos tempos, tornou-se apenas desvantajoso ali viver, já que a água tinha chegado a todo o lado, mesmo que de forma escassa, e a segurança já não era um problema.
In human/social terms, there are several records of a population cluster here that existed until the 40s/50s. There are several settlements that prove this agglomeration, and even, through the architectural structure of the settlements, it is noticeable that they did not have only the agricultural purpose. The housing nucleus of the Pedregal site prospered there for many years, since they were protected from privateers, they had a harbor sheltered by Ponta da Cruz, which despite being on the north coast, has calmer waters, due to the greater precipitation, since the slopes are exposed to the north, and consequently have less atmospheric insolation. Despite being more exposed to the winds, in general, they had better conditions. With the evolution of time, living there became just disadvantageous, since water had reached everywhere, even if scarcely, and security was no longer a problem.

Esta série de caches “Vamos ao Porto do Pedregal” tem como objetivo dar a conhecer este local pouco conhecido na Ilha Dourada, através de um trilho que inicia-se no Miradouro do Pedregal (ER111) e finda junto ao Porto do Pedregal.
É possível percorrer esta série de caches num 4x4 TT, pois o caminho de terra está em boas condições para um veículo preparado. Contudo, pode e aconselho a percorrer este caminho a pé, para observar atentamente a todos os elementos supracitados.
This series of caches “Vamos ao Porto do Pedregal” aims to make known this little-known place on Ilha Dourada, through a trail that starts at the Miradouro do Pedregal (ER111) and ends next to Porto do Pedregal.
It is possible to go through this series of caches in a 4x4 TT, as the dirt road is in good condition for a prepared vehicle. However, you can and I advise you to walk this path on foot, to carefully observe all the elements mentioned above.
O caminho a pé está indicado em diversa cartografia, existindo até, várias opções de começo. Inclusive, já teve a designação de PR. Aconselho o início no Miradouro do Pedregal pelas diversas razões apresentadas. Posteriormente, só precisará de seguir a estrada de terra. Poderá encontrar alguma barreira na estrada de terra. Contudo, não se acanhe, pois pode transpor à vontade.
The path on foot is indicated in different cartography, and there are even several starting options. It even had the designation of PR. I advise starting at the Pedregal Viewpoint for the various reasons given. Afterwards, you just need to follow the dirt road. You may find some barrier on the dirt road. However, don't be shy, you can transpose at will.
O percurso tem uma distância total de aproximadamente 2 Km à, ou seja, 4 Km ß/à. O percurso tem um declive médio de 8%, enquanto, atinge um máximo de 25.1%. Inicia-se a 220 metros de altitude e finda junto ao mar. A ida é sempre a descer, enquanto a vinda é sempre a subir. Conte com pelo menos 2h (ida e volta), caso pretenda apenas realizar as caches “Vamos ao Porto do Pedregal” e estar à vontade para observar atentamente algumas características.
The route has a total distance of approximately 2 Km à, that is, 4 Km ß/à. The route has an average slope of 8%, while reaching a maximum of 25.1%. It starts at an altitude of 220 meters and ends by the sea. The going is always going down, while the coming is always going up. Count on at least 2 hours (round trip), if you just want to do the “Vamos ao Porto do Pedregal” caches and feel free to observe some features carefully.
