The Forest
A permit is not required for hiking, walking, or seeking this cache. However certain activities, such as horseback riding or mountain biking, may require one. Conway Robinson State Forest is open from 7 am to 7 pm - No Night Caching!
The Trek
The theme of the cache was inspired by a green in the forest where I found 21 beer cans and water bottles, all empty unfortunately, and 34 golf balls. It looked like the biggest party nook in the park - Ach chan e mead an neach a tha ciontach (as highlanders say).
The shortest route from parking to the start point is yellow, blue, then orange. On the yellow spur you'll pass a rare grove of Cardinal Flowers that bloom from the 4th of July to Labor Day. Avoid briars and brambles using creative navigation.
Caution: When I was conducting maintenance I found 3 sections of old farm barbed wire near the first clue. I marked it with blue streamers.
You might want to Whistle The Colonel Bogey March on the trail. But you'll have more than "Four!" to deal with.
Note: 3 Oct 23 - I inspected all the clues and the cache today. My apologies but the 2nd clue is missing 1 or 8 items. The missing item should be painted black with an N marked on it. I'll replace it later this week during my next hike in the forest.
The Cache
The last stop is a traditional cache box with a trackable. It's tucked away in a safe place. On the way you'll need a toothpick or bread twist to get to some clues. Please open the clue containers gently. After you solve Clue #2 and find Clue #3, return to the trail and continue north until you arrive at an intersection. Then turn left and continue toward the "coast". You'll find two additional clues and finally the cache. On the way back you'll pass a Virginia Forest Service marker and, if you have time, take a left turn at the top of the hill for an interesting hike back to the parking lot.
