Geocache Description:

Waterworks Redemption

With abundance of water from the Mojave River and groundwater made this a prime location for farming. In 1915, Max Ihmsen, a grower, developed 320 acres of apples and pears. The fruit won many agriculture awards. The area became a mecca for farming apples. Orchards were found along the Mojave River from the 1920’s into the 1930’s when the during great depression, pumping water became expensive and the struggle to find a work force due to World War 1 the apple business died off in the area. It was big business.

In the 70’s, north and south of this location, were 100’s of acres of alfalfa fields. Waterworks infrastructure was expanded from what was left during the apple farming heyday. As water became less available due to overpumping and drought, it became expensive to replacement water from the overdraft of the basin, farming gradually disappeared and opened the way for development. The waterworks here are an example of what was decades ago. Some of the infrastructure is still visual today throughout the area.

Redemption: I consider this location redemption to a cache that was placed here for several years where I claimed several DNF’s. The CO had replaced the missing cache many times. I just happened to visit those times when it was missing ....... no really. It wasn’t too long ago it was archived and gave me the opportunity to place cache at this same location. You're looking for a small tin.
