History
The project will be at what we are calling the "Rose Property"
You may have read in the news that BPRD recently purchased a large parcel of land on the SE edge of Bend, off Rickard Rd. The Rose property will be a park site in the future. The property includes a gravel pit, hay fields and a whole lot of fencing. It’s a pretty and interesting spot.
To get there, head south on Arnold Market Road from Rickard Road where it briefly turns into Rimfire Road. Turn west onto Back Alley Road. Our staff will meet volunteers at the gated entrance on Night Hawk Road.
The CITO Project
BPRD will provide direction for the project and will have a volunteer waiver/sign in sheet for the event. Cachers will be removing and rolling barbed wire fencing. The old fencing is not only challenging to walk over or crawl under, but an impediment to the wildlife. With our help, BPRD hopes to clean up this area and make it a safer and healthier habitat!
SCHEDULE:
8:15 am Meet at the parking area, posted coordinates.
8:30 to 12:00 pm We will walk to the project site. At the fence site we will divide up responsibilities and remove the barbed wire fencing. Once complete we will haul it out to the trailer provided by BPRD.
WEATHER:
Weather in September is usually warm but as this is central Oregon, the weather can be unpredictable. Dress like you would for caching in the high desert.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING:
Cachers will need to dress for working outdoors and working with barbed wire. Leather or very sturdy gloves are recommended, along with closed toe hiking shoes/boots and older work clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Flip flops are not a great idea!
Also……
Drinking water (THERE IS NO WATER AVAILABLE OR RESTROOMS ON SITE)
Snack
Sunscreen
A hat
And don’t forget tools (if you have them)
Wire Cutters
Buckets
Screwdrivers
WHAT BPRD WILL PROVIDE:
Trash bags
Wire Cutters
Shovels
Buckets
Extra gloves
First Aid Kit
Barbedwire removal after the project
We know several of you are experienced with rolling barbed wire (this isn’t our first rodeo) so we’re counting on you to organize the teams! THANK YOU! Also, because we’re working with barbed wire, children/teens must be accompanied by an adult.
NOTE: there are sheep grazing in a fenced area on the property and we have been advised to leave our dogs at home.
