CITO Season 2 - How about some gardening?! Cache In Trash Out® Event

This cache has been archived.

Redroaming: Once again, many thanks to everyone who attended and worked hard to remove the dreaded ivy from the churchyard wall and to tidy up the memorial plaques. The work has been greatly appreciated, and time for this event to be archived.
PS it was a rather special one for me as it was my 40,000th cache!

Geocache Description:

15 October 2023, 14:00 - 16:00

From 1st September through to 30th November 2023, the Geocaching.com's Season 2 runs all over the world 🌎 with the ethos that we geocachers keenly give something back to the communities in which we energetically stride off to find a film pot at the base of a gate post or an ammo can, used kayaks 🛶 , boats 🚤, complicated tree climbing kit, collapsible ladder, or a fishing pole 🎣 to find a petling tube hanging from a tree branch either yards away from a river bank or from ground level!  CITO stands for Cache in Trash Out in the American way, or a Litter Pick here in the United Kingdom, but there are many other ways we can 'give back' via a short period of time.  CITOs can also be held to plant tree seedlings to create a park or wood for future generations to enjoy, washing and scrubbing park benches to spruce them up around a picturesque lake, and cleaning and painting children's playground equipment. Attending this event and logging your attendees on the geocaching website will earn the CITO Season 2 Profile Souvenir!

This year l have arranged for we geocachers to tidy up the memorial area in Chudleigh's parish churchyard which has become neglected perhaps as the bereaved have become less able to do the work themselves, and as we all so love ivy there is a great opportunity to cut back and remove the abundant ivy growing over the waist high stone wall of the churchyard - though l cannot guarantee there will be a geocache hiding there to resuscitate!

Hopefully we will be able to make a real difference in the time l have allocated for the afternoon, and after tidying up there will be tea, coffee, squash, and biscuits to enjoy in the church.  The church will be open during the afternoon so we can use the toilets.  PLEASE HOWEVER ENSURE THAT YOU ARE NOT TAKING MUD ON YOUR TRAINERS ON TO THE CHURCH's CARPETS.

The given coordinates are for the entrance to the church carpark which will be open for our use; once parked walk through the obvious metal gates into the churchyard and our work area is to our right - just follow the sound of workers' chattering while they work!

PLEASE BRING SMALL GARDENING TOOLS IF YOU HAVE THEM such as SECATEURS, PRUNING SHEARS, A STRIMMER (with extension cable if electric, and gloves.

My grateful thanks to Rev Alex Sharp for accepting our offer of help on behalf of those geocachers attending,

FAMILIES AND CHILDREN WELCOME. AND DOGS ALSO WELCOME ON LEADS (owners to clean up after them please!)
