Geocache Description:

Curlew Park is one of five parks developed as greenspace in the original 1911 neighborhood landscape plan.  The City of Audubon Park was established by the State Assembly in 1941 as a 6th class city on April 17.  It was later elevated to 5th class status in 1977.

The rain garden you see before you was established to be tolerant of the seasonal flooding and the chronic sink holes in this area of the park.  This garden is a part of an inititave to improve the habitat for all the creatures in the Park and to make the environment more peaceful.

In 2011, this garden was dedicated to Sara J. and her husband, H. Patterson, Pope.  Sara passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 at 91 years of age.  She graduated from Atherton Girl's High School, attended Ward Belmont College and the University of Louisville. She was a longtime member of the Audubon Park Garden Club, Highland Mother's Club and St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was also a former member of the Younger Woman's Club & Woman's Club of Louisville.
