Pôr do sol/ Sunset
O pôr do sol é o momento em que o Sol se oculta no horizonte na direção oeste, sendo o início da noite. Ao período do dia em que ocorre o pôr do sol, dá-se o nome de "ocaso". Ele surge graças ao movimento de rotação da Terra, no qual o sol aparenta se mover em torno do nosso planeta atravessando o céu de leste a oeste, o que ocorre graças nossa observação se dar em um ponto não inercial.
Sunset is the moment when the Sun hides behind the horizon towards the west, being the beginning of the night. The period of the day when the sun sets is called "sunset". It arises thanks to the Earth's rotation movement, in which the sun appears to move around our planet crossing the sky from east to west, which occurs thanks to our observation taking place from a non-inertial point.
Cores e brilho/ Colors and brightness
O pôr do sol é, normalmente, mais brilhante do que o nascer do sol, pois a matiz de vermelho e laranja (arrebol) são mais vibrantes. A atmosfera responde de diversas formas à exposição da luz solar. Em particular, no final do dia, a atmosfera tende a reter uma quantidade maior de partículas em suspensão do que no início do dia. Durante o dia, o sol aquece a superfície terrestre, diminuindo assim a humidade do ar e aumentando a velocidade e a turbulência dos ventos, o que acaba por levantar a poeira para o ar. Contudo, as diferenças entre o nascer do sol e o pôr do Sol, em alguns casos, também dependem das peculiaridades geográficas do local de onde o evento está sendo observado.
Sunsets are typically brighter than sunrises, as the hues of red and orange (afterglow) are more vibrant. The atmosphere responds in different ways to exposure to sunlight. In particular, at the end of the day, the atmosphere tends to retain a greater amount of suspended particles than at the beginning of the day. During the day, the sun heats the Earth's surface, thus reducing air humidity and increasing wind speed and turbulence, which ends up lifting dust into the air. However, the differences between sunrise and sunset, in some cases, also depend on the geographical peculiarities of the location from where the event is being observed.
Duração/ Duration
A duração do pôr do sol varia com relação ao período do ano e com a latitude da região na qual o evento está sendo observado. Mudanças na duração são geralmente ocasionadas pela inclinação e pelo movimento do planeta em sua órbita. Por exemplo, no hemisfério norte, o pôr do sol mais precoce não ocorre durante o solstício de inverno, no final de dezembro, mas sim durante o início de dezembro. Outro exemplo é o mais tardio pôr do sol, que, em vez de ocorrer em torno de 21 de junho, surge no início de julho. O mesmo fenômeno também ocorre no hemisfério sul, com exceção das datas, que são trocadas. Durante uma ou duas semanas, durante ambos os solstícios, tanto o pôr quanto o nascer do sol, ocorrem ligeiramente mais tarde ou mais cedo a cada dia, uma das características da troca de estações. Este fenômeno ocorre até em regiões equatoriais, onde a troca das estações é dificilmente notada.
The duration of the sunset varies with respect to the time of year and the latitude of the region in which the event is being observed. Changes in duration are generally caused by the tilt and movement of the planet in its orbit. For example, in the Northern Hemisphere, the earliest sunset does not occur during the winter solstice in late December, but rather during early December. Another example is the latest sunset, which, instead of occurring around June 21st, appears at the beginning of July. The same phenomenon also occurs in the southern hemisphere, with the exception of the dates, which are changed. For a week or two during both solstices, both sunset and sunrise occur slightly later or earlier each day, one of the characteristics of the change of seasons. This phenomenon occurs even in equatorial regions, where the change of seasons is difficult to notice.
[A cache/ The cache]
Esta cache surgiu com o intuito de proporcionar ao geocachers uma boa cache em que pudessem comtemplar o pôr do sol, num dos melhores locais para observá-lo na Ilha do Porto Santo, ou pelo menos, que fosse possível colocar uma cache. Apesar de ser um local muito ventoso, a cache irá fazer esquecer-se por momentos do seu redor, e quem sabe, o guie até aos Morenos. Aproveite para observar o Ilhéu da Cal e o Ilhéu de Ferro.
Para aqui chegar, aconselhamos a estacionar junto ao radar meteorológico, no Pico do Espigão. Depois, é só descer por um caminho improvisado até à cache. A cache contém um caderno de registos grande, umas pedras decoradas e alusivas à cache, uma caneta e areia no fundo. A cache está de igual modo, pintada e decorada com o tema em questão. Foi uma cache que deu algum trabalho, mas no fim foi compensatório. Esperemos que faça jus ao tema, e que tire sorrisos aos geocachers.
Por fim, pedimos especial cuidado ao remover a pedra. Após encontrar a localização da cache, irá facilmente perceber onde está. Remova apenas a pedra superior, com cautela (consulte a imagem spoiler).
This cache was created with the aim of providing geocachers with a good cache where they could admire the sunset, in one of the best places to observe it, or at least, where it would be possible to place a cache. Despite being a very windy place, the cache will make you forget your surroundings for a moment, and who knows, it will guide you to Morenos. Take the opportunity to observe Ilhéu da Cal and Ilhéu de Ferro.
To get here, we recommend parking next to the weather radar, in Pico do Espigão. Then, just go down an improvised path to the cache. The cache contains a large notebook, some decorated stones alluding to the cache, a pen and sand at the bottom. The cache is similarly painted and decorated with the theme in question. It was a cache that took some work, but in the end it was worth it. Let's hope it does justice to the theme, and makes geocachers smile.
Finally, we ask that you take special care when removing the stone. Once you find the location of the cache, you will easily understand where it is. Remove only the top stone, with caution (see spoiler image).
