Wirral Country Park at 50

Wirral Country Park was the first designated country park in Britain and was formally opened on 2nd October 1973 by Lord Leverhulme. It is located along the Wirral Way, which follows the track bed of part of the former Birkenhead Railway line from West Kirby to Hooton. The old line, which closed in 1962, follows the estuary of the River Dee for 7 miles (11 km) between West Kirby and Parkgate. The route then heads inland for another 5 miles (8 km) across the Wirral peninsula to Hooton.

This event is to celebrate the Country Park’s 50th Birthday. It is being held at Hadlow Road Railway Station between 1:00pm and 2:30pm where there is a free car park for about 35 cars (with more free parking nearby in Willaston), a café (open until 4pm) and toilets. There are several geocaches nearby including a set of Adventure Labcaches (with a bonus hide).

And as it’s a celebration of a very special 50th Birthday, there might also be a cake!
