It's that time of year again! Back To School Time!!!
Make sure you gather all your school supplies. But most importantly don't forget to grab an apple for your teacher. Okay might not be the trendy thing anymore but this practice can be dated back to as early as the 16th centuries and across many different countries. But a common theme exists, sometimes even baskets of apples (or other food) would be offered to teachers from families to help compensate for their poor wages, or the community was responsible for housing and providing for teachers. Also can be noted that for apple growing regions harvest time lines up with the start of school. Was until around the 1920s that gifting teachers an apple became slang for trying to win favors or try to be the teachers pet.
