Geocache Description:

11 November 2023, 20:00 - 21:00

Join us at Ft. McAllister for a unique camping experience!

The Georgia Geo-Campers will be camping at Fort McAllister State Park the weekend of November 11th. This is our 10 YEAR anniversary camping at Ft McAllister state park. Most of the camping geocachers will be arriving on the 10th to set up camp and to explore all the awesome POI's this state park offers.

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY
Have you ever seen a cannon fired at night time? We did! Thanks to Philip for taking this great shot. No guarantees on a cannon firing this year but who knows? Fort McAllister is allowing the Georgia Geo-Campers this unique opportunity and you don't want to miss out on camping --> INSIDE<-- the fort either! A 'must do' for any camping enthusiast.

IMPORTANT! Additional activities for Saturday November 11th 'You don't want to miss these fun events!'.

IMPORTANT: Two additional activities
1) 6:00am - 10/11am: RANGERDOC - He will be making a boat run Saturday morning to WASSAW ISLAND for the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge Complex Geotrail cache as well as the Earthcache. There are 12 open seats on the boat, first come first serve. The more seats filled, the cheaper the cost. The only cost is for fuel burned.
RESERVE YOUR SEAT ON THE BOAT IN YOUR WILL ATTEND OR NOTE LOG ON THIS EVENT PAGE

2) 11:00am - 6:00pm: Lowdollar - He will host a 'photo' scavenger hunt from 11am - 3pm. Whether you scrambled around the area taking pictures or just chilled in the park everyone will get to participate in the shenanigans as we announce the big winners and present a slideshow of all the entries from about 4 to 530 at the park office/museum. Be sure to sign up on Lowdollar's event page: A Low Dollar Photo Scavenger Hunt With The GGC

You don't have to camp in the fort to be able to attend this event. All geocachers are invited to attend this, 'must experience' event.

To Camp With the Georgia Geo-Campers Within The Fort:
To reserve a camp site inside the fort with the Georgia Geo-Campers, just include in your 'Will Attend' log - "reserve camp site please", or you can contact us directly via profile.

*PLEASE* - DO NOT CALL THE PARK! The historic Fort has been reserved just for geocachers to campout. To simplify reservations for everyone, I will update the "Fort Campers" list below who have reserved a site and collect the camp money for the park.

COST:
$30 per tent for two days camping (Friday and Saturday).
$5 Candle Lantern Tour for those who are not camping. (with park pass per vehicle)

Got a camper and want to stay in the campground? You don't like to camp out and rather rent a cottage for the weekend? No worries! The park has several accommodations to meet your needs. You'll need to make those reservations by visiting the state parks reservation system by clicking here.

More Camping 411
Every vehicle is required to have a $5 parking pass for any state park. There will be no vehicle traffic in the camping area. Campers are allowed to drive into the fort to drop off gear before returning to the parking area. There will be water and restrooms for us but no electric. Showers can be used in the camp ground.

**FOR CAMPERS ONLY - Use additional waypoint to find road to access the camping area to offload gear; you will need gate code from the office to enter. Cars will then need to be parked in the paved parking area near the park office. **Please do not plan to set up camp prior to 3:00pm on Friday 11/11/2022** ***

The tents can stay up as long as they don't block the daily visitors. Tent canopies are allowed. Hammock campers: no trees are available so bring your stands / tripods!
