Long ago there lived a Spanish explorer who stashed a treasure of great value in the foothills of this area. He went on to settle the region in four different environments, and his treasure was left undisturbed for centuries. The settlers’ Spanish descendants each discovered a single map in their four territories, four maps in all. All the maps recorded a single different ending coordinate. Each community thought they had the only real map to the treasure and each put together an expedition to uncover its secrets for themselves.
Their journeys were not long or arduous, but when they came to their final positions they found no treasure. After searching for days with no success, they then realized that the coordinates were no where near the actual treasure and that each map was only a piece of the puzzle. They needed to work together and use the information found on all four maps to find it. When they compared all the final coordinates, it was noted that the points formed a perfect square pattern. Was the treasure located at the exact center of an enormous X in the center of these points? With a simple calculation the true location of the stash was clear. They found it easily, buried at the base of a pine tree, and it was everything that they had dreamed of. Instead of taking all of its wealth, they left a portion in the original location as a memorial to the great Spanish explorer.
