Once upon a time, when I was just a little girl, I went to visit my friend's house by the lake. Her quaint cottage nestled across the street from the glistening waters, and she had a marvelous floating dock that extended away from the shore. It was a perfect summer day, and after tanning for a bit.
When ready to go back to her house we glanced beneath the crystal-clear water and were greeted by an unexpected sight – a school of fierce-looking pikes gracefully gliding through the depths. Shocked and frightened, we let out screams that echoed across the tranquil lake, hoping to catch the attention of her parents, who were relaxing some distance away.
But alas, they were too far to hear our cries for help. Panic surged through us as we watched the predatory pikes circling beneath us. With hearts pounding, we mustered every ounce of courage and made a split-second decision. In unison, we jumped as far out toward the safety of the shore as our young legs could propel us and began to swim for our lives.
The adrenaline-fueled swim felt like an eternity, but eventually, we reached the safety of the shore, gasping for breath and trembling with fear. Never again did I dare set foot on that floating dock, a place once filled with excitement and adventure, now forever etched in my memory as a heart-pounding encounter with the wild.
Years later, this geocache stands as a tribute to that day, commemorating our bravery in the face of nature's unexpected challenges. It served as a reminder that sometimes, even in idyllic settings, courage and quick thinking can be our greatest allies.
