Pustynia Błędowska – największy w Polsce obszar lotnych piasków (około 33 km⊃2;), leżący na pograniczu Wyżyny Śląskiej i Wyżyny Olkuskiej.
Rozciąga się od dzielnicy Błędów Dąbrowy Górniczej na zachodzie do gminy Klucze na wschodzie. Granicą północną pustyni jest wieś Chechło, a na południu jest ograniczona dużym obszarem leśnym. Pustynia ma niecałe 10 km długości i szerokość do 4 km. Piaski mają średnią miąższość 40 m, maksymalnie 70 m. Przez pustynię, ze wschodu na zachód, przepływa Biała Przemsza. Obszar pustyni objęty jest programem ochrony Natura 2000.
Historia
Podczas epoki lodowcowej, następujących po sobie zlodowaceń do doliny, w której znajduje się pustynia, stopniowo nanoszone były kolejne porcje piasków i żwirów. Przez długi czas te rozległe tereny podlegały działaniu wiatrów oraz wody, co nie sprzyjało wzrostowi roślinności.
Gdy minęła epoka lodowcowa, pojawił się gęsty las, który dopiero w okolicach XIII wieku zaczął być intensywnie eksploatowany. Do powstałych w rejonie Olkusza kopalni srebra oraz ołowiu potrzebne były spore ilości drewna wykorzystywanego do wzmacniania szybów kopalnianych. Intensywna wycinka drzew oraz pobór wód gruntowych na terenach, gdzie podłoże stanowią żwiry i piaski, doprowadziły do powstania pustyni o pochodzeniu antropogenicznym.

Błędowska Desert - the largest area of shifting sands in Poland (approximately 33 km⊃2;), located on the border of the Silesian Upland and the Olkusz Upland.
It stretches from the Błędów district of Dąbrowa Górnicza in the west to the Klucze commune in the east. The northern border of the desert is the village of Chechło, and in the south it is bordered by a large forest area. The desert is less than 10 km long and up to 4 km wide. The sands have an average thickness of 40 m, a maximum of 70 m. The Biała Przemsza flows through the desert, from east to west. The desert area is covered by the Natura 2000 protection program.
History
During the Ice Age, successive glaciations were gradually added to the valley where the desert is located, subsequent portions of sand and gravel. For a long time, these vast areas were subject to the action of winds and water, which was not conducive to the growth of vegetation.
When the Ice Age passed, a dense forest appeared, which only began to be intensively exploited around the 13th century. The silver and lead mines established in the Olkusz region required large amounts of wood used to strengthen the mine shafts. Intensive felling of trees and abstraction of groundwater in areas where the substrate is gravel and sand have led to the creation of an anthropogenic desert.
