Geocache Description:

Have a seat, stay a while. Watch
life fly by, oblivious to this
tranquil place.

The forest on the other side of
this road grew out of a swamp in
the bowl of an ancient lake.
Beneath the surface are layers
upon layers of fallen branches on
top of tree stumps, all soaked in
water. County Road 25 is straight
for 14 km except for this section
which curves around the ancient lake.

This fence is important because it
separates the northern edge of useful
farm land from the ancient lake.

This fence was built around two
hundred years ago when Scottish
settlers came to this area. Page
wire was not available so farmers
used fieldstones to make fences.
Their fences were actually stone
walls, and the farmers took great
pride in how they were built. A
well-made fence had straight sides,
was flat on top, and was made of
thousands of stones. This fence has
since fallen apart.

This road would have evolved from a
horse trail that passed between the
stone fence and the ancient lake.
The horse trail connected later
settlers that cleared land for
farming to the east and west of the
ancient lake.
