This cache is located at the site of our very first find - the original cache The Giant Soda Bottle that was placed here by Bundyrumandcoke but since archived.
While drilling for coal in the late 19th century, geologist Mr A Gibb Maitland sank a bore 305 metres deep at the site of a shallower bore sunk 2 decades earlier.
Gas pressure forced the water through the bore casing and high into the air like a geyser, reportedly erupting at 4 hourly intervals, decreasing over time to 8 day intervals.
Maria Creek bore became known as The Giant Soda Bottle.
Water from the bore was used to make what were claimed to be the world's best scones.
The bore has long since ceased to flow, but older locals still share fond memories of it.
