Several land lots have been set aside as a migratory bird sanctuary here on South Padre Island.  These lots have been developed with native plants and water for the feeding and resting of the migrating birds.  Many local and migratory birds are drawn to this location and it is amazing the amount of bird songs that can be heard at this spot.  More than 300 species of birds stop at South Padre Island during the spring and fall migration.  Birders come from all over the United States during the fall, winter, and spring in order to view and photograph these colorful and vocal birds.  Another place to visit while on South Padre Island is the Birding and Nature Center on the north end of the island. The Birding Center has many boardwalks and displays that add to the birding experience.
