Let's Get Outdoors #19: Pony Pasture Park
Fall Colors! They should be at or near their peak along the James River this particular week on the calendar, so a special early month edition of Let's Get Outdoors (on a Tuesday, no less). Let's get out onto the river itself and enjoy some fall colors!
NOTE: The Westham guage was at 3.8 feet when I stepped out onto a rock in the river to take these coordinates. It's a pretty straightfoward walk that does not require any advanced rockhopping and there's room for camp chairs. But if the river is up to even 6 feet on the guage on Nov 7, these coordinates will be underwater. So there's two sets of backup coordinates included, one being just a few feet away on some rocks about 5 feet above the water when I took my readings, and the other near the parking area if the river is high enough to be churning brown.
Either way, even just the drive along Riverside Drive should provide quite a show of colors in the trees and if we can venture out to the posted coordinates you'll have a 360 degree view of those colors! There was a bit of PI along the edge of the water so watch your step as you venture into the woods.
