Het Hulsbeek is het recreatiegebied van Oldenzaal. Voorheen was het een landgoed in eigendom van de bekende Oldenzaalse textielfamilie Gelderman. De oudste vermelding uit 1385 stamt uit het Manuaal van de Rentmeester van Twente. Uit het schattingsregister van Twente valt af te leiden dat er anno 1475 ongeveer twintig boerderijen stonden.
Landgoed Het Hulsbeek werd in 1970 aangekocht door het Recreatieschap Twente, het huidige Regio Twente. Zij zijn grondeigenaar van Het Hulsbeek. Toen der tijd zijn er d.m.v. zandafgravingen drie recreatieplassen gemaakt. Het zand uit deze afgravingen is gebruikt bij de aanbouw van de naastgelegen woonwijk De Thij. Anno nu is het recreatiepark aangevuld met een wielerbaan, moutainbikeparcours en worden er gedurende het jaar diverse evenementen georganiseerd, zoals Twente Ballooning. Daarnaast kan er in het omliggende gebied heerlijk gewandeld en gefietst worden.
Deze fietsroute van 9km neemt je mee door het mooie natuur- en buitengebied die je buitenom de recreatievijver kunt vinden.
Onderweg vind je een ruime hoeveelheid rustbankjes en koffielocaties!

De fietsroute

Tussenpunt 1: N 52° 18.702' E 006° 53.079'
Op dit tussenpunt vind je informatie over de kadastrale geschiedenis van Het Hulsbeek en hoe houtwallen als afscheiding hebben gefungeerd tussen landbouwpercelen. Tegenwoordig is er een bijzonderheid waardoor de houtwal van toen nu een andere term heeft. Wat is deze term (zes letters)?

Om juist bij tussenpunt 6 te komen dien je het fietspad te vervolgen. Bij de eerste T-splitsing houd je rechts aan. Je fietst dan langs de manege. Bij het kruispunt met de Oude Almeloseweg steek je over en houd je opnieuw rechts aan (je blijft op het fietspad).
Tussenpunt 6: N 52° 18.CD(E-2)' E 006° 52.EA(B+1)'
Op deze plek vind je een boerderij die vaak gebruik wordt als evenement- of trouwlocatie. De grote vlinder trekt hier dan ook de aandacht. Wat is de naam van deze locatie?

Op de gevel van dit gebouw vind je de naam van wat ooit begon als een boerencamping, maar inmiddels is uitgegroeid tot een horeca-onderneming (tien letters).

Inmiddels heb je een stuk fietspad afgelegd dat zich mooi verslingerd door dit gebied en is de finalecache in zicht! De parkeerplaats waar je nu bent is, in tegenstelling tot je startpunt, betaald. To get to Waypoint 6 the right way, you have to follow the bicycle path that you are on. At the first T-crossing, keep a right. You will cycle next to the stables. At the next crossroads with the Oude Almeloseweg, head on straight and then take another right (you stay on the bycicle path).

At this location you find a farm that is often used as an event- or weddinglocation. The big butterfly here will catch your attention. What is the name of this location?
